Reference Design Platform for Brushless Motors
Modernisation Creates Potential
The focus of modernisation is increasingly on speed-controlled drive systems in standard auxiliary applications such as pumping, ventilating, compressing, conveying, moving, air-conditioning and cooling. EBV offers a reference design called 'FalconEye' main printed circuit board (PCB) with all power electronics’ for brushless motors.

The FalconEye reference design platform was developed in collaboration between Altera®, Avago Technologies, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and EBV Elektronik. The modular FalconEye board with PFC (Power Factor Correction) is used for controlling and/or regulating brushless synchronous and induction motors.
FalconEye from EBV offers developers enormous potential benefits, ranging from huge energy savings to high-precision control options and significant improvement in EMI behaviour. At present, FalconEye is optimised for controlling brushless direct current motors (BLDC). The board can be easily converted for use with alternating current motors (BLAC), switched reluctance motors (SR) and induction motors (IM).

Hardware
The board is equipped with all the electronics necessary to control the BLDC motor supplied along with the board and is designed with EMI filter for operation at standard supply voltages (90...240 VAC). FalconEye uses the UL-certified FSBB15CH60 smart power module from Fairchild Semiconductor. This is a complete 3-phase IGBT inverter module with integrated gate control and protection circuit for 3-phase DC motors in the 500 W range.
