Moonstone TM High Power LED Modules
LED-based lighting is now technically and commercially attractive for many applications
and Avago Technologies continues to strengthen its position with the extension of its Moonstone™ high-power LED family
These LEDs are available in cold white (ASMT-MW00), warm white (ASMT-MY00), green (ASMT-MG00) and blue (ASMT-MB00) – the AlInGaP colors (red, red-orange and amber) are in the process of being released to the market. Samples and smaller quantities are now available. Mass production for AlInGaP Moonstone will be up and running in March 2008. The advantages of Moonstone’s industry-standard power-transistor package (TO-220) are: very low profile, low thermal resistance (Rth J-P= 8 K/W), built-in Zener diode for ESD protection (up to 16 kV) and the flange around the silicon chip which protects the silicon from being touchable and enables the use of Avago’s click-on lenses. Additionally, the power-transistor package enables designers to use the same package and layout for different Moonstone LEDs ranging from 0.5... 3 W. The Moonstone is compliant with standard SMT soldering processes and is rated at moisture sensitivity level (MSL) 2a, which means 4 weeks of shelf life without the need to re-bake the LED. It is recommended to use the diffused Moonstone if the design requires additional lenses (see also page 17, ASMT-Mxxxx article). For lighting applications designers often have the need for LED modules where driving the LEDs is made easy and thermal management is taken care of, therefore Avago is now also offering LED modules based on 2nd Generation Moonstone high-power LEDs (ADJD-WMxx and ADJD-YMxx).
